Meet The Staff

We have an excellent group of experienced and capable staff at Brett Cavanough Racing, each an important member of our team.  We would like to introduce them to you.

Brett Cavanough

Brett Cavanough, Trainer

Brett works closely with his team, leading by example. He has a wonderful team of dedicated staff and works closely with his crew who have been a part of getting the stable to where it is today.

Craig Cavanough, Racing Manager

A cousin of Brett, who made the move south from Toowoomba to become racing manager for the operation.
He has been involved in racing for 32 years starting out as a stablehand before securing his own trainers’ licence.

One of his greatest moments in racing was buying a horse by the name of Stoddart who had suffered two bowed tendons before going onto win seven races in the Toowoomba district.

During the stable’s successful run in Queensland in 2008 with Helideck winning the Prime Minister’s Cup and BTC Sprint, Craig was the man on the spot in charge of a small, select team that also included Xaardante and Key To Success.

Brendan Larkins, Foreman

Started in the racing industry as an apprentice jockey aged 15 in Tasmania with his grand-father and trainer, Claude.

He rode on the flat until he was 23 before a switch to the jumps which has resulted in some of his finest moments in racing.

In 1985, he won time-honoured races, the Crisp Steeple and Hiskens Steeple on Tengah Hari for trainer Michael Trinder.

He also rode jumpers for leading trainer Robert Smerdon and made the move to the Cavanough stable in the middle of 2008.

Lauren Cavanough

Lauren Cavanough, Office Manager

Although Brett may gain all the media credit, Lauren definitely deserves a mention.

A tireless worker behind the scenes, Lauren is responsible for all of the office work including billing owners, paying staff, keeping owners up to date on the latest happenings of the stable as well as nominating and accepting for races around the country.

All this whilst keeping a watchful eye over their four children (Jessica 13, Georgie 11, Jack 10 and Sam 8)

Amy Carroll

Amy Carroll, Stable Hand

A passionate horsewoman, Amy has been a pony club regular with the Tumbarumba and Wirlinga clubs and is presently employed as a stablehand at the Cavanough stables.

Her duties include exercising horses on the treadmill as well as swimming them as well as attending to their every need to ensure they are at their peak on raceday.

She joined the Cavanough stable at Easter 2007.
