BRETT Cavanough announced his return to the Albury races in style, with two wins at his home track on Saturday.

Cavanough hadn’t had a runner since early December after a virus went through his Albury stables.

But there were no lasting ramifications, with Cinastar winning the Commercial Club 3YO Maiden (1000m) before Escebee romped home in the Eliza Thompson Cup feature (1175m) with John Kissick on board.

The $4.60 favourite beat Brian Cox-trained duo Dalrada and Bay of Biscay home by two lengths.

“We put in seven weeks of hard work to get them right and get them fit,” he said.

“It was a herd virus, it went through everything and it took us three weeks to sort the fitter ones from the sicker ones.

“We had two smart horses win today, they’ll both measure up for the carnival.”

Jockeys Kissick, Richard Bensley and Brendan Ward won two races apiece on the seven-race card.
