Hopefully I can sneak one or two this weekend with a bit of luck and that should make a difference- Brett Cavanough
ALBURY trainer Brett Cavanough is closing in on another Southern District premiership.
With just two months remaining in the racing season, Cavanough leads Wagga’s Trevor Sutherland by eight wins as he chases an 11th crown.
Cavanough has 33 winners, followed by Sutherland on 25 and Jerilderie’s Phil Sweeney on 20.
Cavanough hopes the eight-win margin will prove enough.
“I’ve got a bit of ammunition,” Cavanough said.
“Hopefully I can sneak one or two this weekend with a bit of luck and that should make a difference.”
Cavanough has nominated four horses for Albury’s Sky Two meeting on Saturday, where as Sutherland has 10 among the entries.
There are still 12 race meetings scheduled in the SDRA before the end of the season.
Meantime in the jockey’s ranks, John Kissick is destined for his third SDRA premiership.
Kissick has 37 SDRA wins to his name and is six clear of Nick Heywood, who is now based in Sydney with the Snowden stable.
Brooke Sweeney is third.
